Who this is for
Senior HR professionals interviewing for CHRO, Group HR Director, Head of People or senior HR leadership seats, particularly across GCC operating companies, listed entities and PE-backed portfolios.
The senior HR interview tests whether the candidate operates as a strategic partner to the CEO or as a functional HR lead. Most CHRO mandates we run are filled by candidates who have made this shift visibly; few candidates we see at first interview have made it yet. The conversation is almost always about how the candidate would have shaped specific past situations as the people lead in the room, not as the HR support function.
This guide covers the questions we hear most often across the CHRO and Group HRD mandates we have run, and the specific framing patterns that distinguish strategic HR leaders from operational HR experts. We have included specific guidance on reward strategy, culture transformation and talent architecture, because these are the three areas where a strong operational HR director can still get filtered out at the strategic conversation.
Read this as preparation for the partnership conversation you will have, not the HR generalist interview you might have been preparing for.
